YOGYAKARTA- UGM Faculty of Law Team won the 3rd Best Memorial Award Asia Cup 2012. International Law Moot Court Competition Asia Cup 2012 is an annual moot court competition of students in Asia organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan which has been routinely held since 2003. Asia Cup has now become one of prestigious moot court competitions in Asia.
In this competition, the ability of Law students is tested to make the judicial file (memorial) and perform oral pleading on the case that is given. The legal issues raised in the Asia Cup are international humanitarian law and human rights.
The team from Faculty of Law UGM in this competition consists of Andyka Ahmad Kasyidi Latief (Manager / Head Delegates), Annisa Mahardika Izzati (Oralist), Pinkadela Mashitta (Oralist), Talitha Luthfia (Researcher) and Vierna Tasya Wensatama (Oralist).
According to Pinkadela, the participation of Faculty of Law students in the competition is the first time. At the national round, participants from all universities in Asia send the memorial to the committee. Furthermore, the best files from each country will be selected, and the file drafting teams are entitled to go to the International Round in Japan to represent their country.
"Through hard work, finally AC27 team of Faculty of Law UGM achieved very good result for their file, becoming representative of Indonesia in the next round," Pinkadela said, Tuesday (28/8).
The International Round, Pinkadela said, from August 20-21, 2012 was conducted in the Japanese Foreign Ministry building and was attended by 10 teams from 9 countries in Asia, such as Singapore Management University of Singapore, Chulalongkorn University of Thailand, Ateneo Law School from the Philippines, Peking University of China, Kathmandu School of Law of Nepal, Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and Waseda University and Sophia University of Japan.
After passing the preliminary round where each team played as Applicant and Respondent, the two teams with the highest scores proceeded to the final round, these are Singapore Management University and the Ateneo School of Law. Both teams already hold a winning history since the Asia Cup was first held.
"This year’s Asia Cup trophy is won by the Ateneo School of Law which also took home two major titles, namely Best Memorial Award and Best Oralist," Pinkadela explained.
