Dozens of students were gathering in front of the Auditorium of Faculty of Animal Science during the ballot counting of dean’s election. Two students approached Prof. Dr. Ali Agus, asking him to meet the students.
It was not for a demonstration that the students were approaching Prof Ali Agus, but to congratulate him who was elected the new Dean of Faculty of Animal Science for the next four years of term of office, 2012-2016. Ali Agus was asked to give a speech. In his speech he promised to make the Faculty of Animal Sciene as the driving force in animal husbandry sector through ‘food jihad’. After the speech, Ali Agus received a bouquet of flowers from the students.
In the election, Ali Agus competed against two other candidates, Prof. Dr. Ir. Zuprizal, D.E.A. and Prof. Dr. Kustantinah. Ali Agus grabbed 40 votes whilst Zuprizal and Kustantinah 13 and 12 respectively.
In the short speech, Ali Agus pledged that he would work seriously to give optimal and synergistic service. In his opinion, deans are required not only to have leadership capacity but also to become manager and servant. “I would implement these three functions. If not, please remind me, but if I do something good, I would like to request for your support," said the man born in Blora, 46 years ago.
Meanwhile, in the second round of dean election at the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. dr. Teguh Aryandono, Sp.B(K)Onk was able to win over his competitor, dr. Abu Tholib Aman, M.Sc., Ph.D., Sp.MK(K). Of all 386 votes, Teguh obtained 254 votes, Abu Tholib 128, whilst 3 were disqualified and one abstained.
At the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Dr. Pujo Semedi Hargo Yuwono, M.A. won over incumbert Dr. Ida Rochani Adi, S.U. with 80 votes, Ida 60. At the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Dr. Erwan Agus Purwanto, M.Si. was named the winner of dean’s election, getting 60 votes or above Dr.Phil. Hermin Indah Wahyuni, S.I.P., M.Si. with 33 votes. Erwan said that he would enhance the department as the core of the implementation of the University’s Tridharma motto, developing educational system and innovative teaching, and improving research quality and publications that have relevance with giving solutions to national problems.
Rector of UGM, Prof. Dr. Pratikno, M.Soc.Sc., was present in the event, exercising his right in the election. Pratikno told reporters that he expected tjhat the 18 elected deans would be well-received in their respective faculties. They should also have managerial capacities and networking in carrying out their official functions.
