YOGYAKARTA- Writing was never on the mind of this lecturer of Faculty of Economics and Business of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Tri Widodo, M.Ec.Dec., Ph.D. But who would have thought his hobby in writing in international journals has made him one of 25 Indonesian economists, who is mentioned in the IDEAS of July 2012. IDEAS is the world’s biggest economic journal containing over 1.2 million of research items.
“It has the biggest database, written by world economists, including from Indonesia,” said tri Widodo on Monday (10/9).
The Head of Economics said he is one of the 25 Indonesia economists along with other economists, such as those from UI, IPB, Universitas Syiah Kuala and UNPAD Bandung. According to Tri Widodo, he regularly writes for international journals, whether online or printed. At least, 32 journals have published his writings.
“Of all 32 international journals, 6 are members of IDEAS,” he said.
The IDEAS ranking, said Tri Widodo, is very useful to assess lecturer’s performance. He gave an example that the title of professor abroad can be reconsidered to be cancelled if they don’t meet the required number of writings published in international journals. The more published, the more chance for our writings to be cited by other researchers.
“There is the contract system applied abroad in using the title of professor. Even more so for those who cannot meet the required number of writings in international journals, said the man born in Yogyakarta, 28 June 1971.
Tri Widodo who likes to write for international journals since 2007 said the writing in a journal also serves as a form of responsibility to the public. Besides, he saw that a circular from the Higher Learning Directorate on the publication of scientific works is a trigger for lecturers and students to write more.
He also mentioned some of his articles that have been published, including: Dynamic changes in comparative advantage: Japan “flying geese” model and its implications for China, also Comparative Advantage:Theory, Empirical Measures and Case Studies.
Apart from 1,2 millions of items, IDEAS also contains information on 12 thousands of economic institutes, 33 thousands of writers registered in the writer service of RePEc and around 37 thousands of NEP reports in 92 areas.
