YOGYAKARTA – Governor of the Province of Yogyakarta Special Region who is also Chairman of Alumni Association of Universitas Gadjah Mada  (KAGAMA), Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, said that the state has to be able to build a new outlook on the concept of nationalistic viewpoint as the current outlook can no longer be able to build collective awareness in reducing political conflict and state disintegration. “One of the ways is the movement in loving domestic products, Sri Sultan said in the workshop Building Leader Cadres that Have Entrepreneurial Spirit and Nationalistic Spirit, followed by some 400 students in the auditorium of MM UGM, Wednesday (12/12).

Sri Sultan added that such viewpoint was built through political consensus so it is elitist. Therefore, the state has to be able to build society’s collective awareness through cultural dialogue and parity of prosperity development and justice. “The nationalistic viewpoint cannot be done by singing only, yelling ‘freedom’ or the bhineka tunggal ika slogan,” he said.

To the 400 young entrepreneurs, he reminded them to increase historic, realistic and futuristic awareness to be able to become cadres for leaders that are able to synergise the power of the nation. “Approaching year 2014, the young people with nation character should be able to become thinkers, fighters and renewers,” he said.

Entrepreneur as well as former Minister of Industry and Trade, Luhut B. Pandjaitan, said that it is no longer appropriate to make a dichotomy between senior and young leaders after the many corruption cases done by young leaders. As leaders candidates, the young people are expected to prioritise simplicity and role model. “A note to the young people, don’t make money as the goal in life,” he said.

Chairperson of Yogyakarta Youth Association (Karang Taruna), GKR Pembayun, said the workshop is the result of work between Faculty of Economics and Business of UGM, Karang Taruna and DEFINIT. Such workshop aims to produce young entrepreneurs that have leadership and entrepreneur spirit, entrepreneurs that understand awareness of nationalistic viewpoint.
