State Owned Enterprises Ministry partnering with Universitas Gadjah Mada will realise research findings in pharmaceuticals and health technology by UGM researchers. At least 9 research will be produced in 2013.This was stated by Minister Dahlan Iskan when giving a general lecture to 400 students on Friday at Senate Hall, UGM.
“Up to now, various findings at university stopped at prototype or testing only. Not many have been put into realisation so the results have not been enjoyed by society. The SOEs Ministry will therefore assist in terms of production,” he said.
In producing the nine research findings, Dahlan said his ministry will work with pharmaceutical industry while UGM works with BPOM for development to avoid repeat research as they have complied with BPOM requirement. “The ministry will keep cooperating intensively with UGM and other universities,” he added.
Dahlan said the research is very potential for development as it gives benefits to society, for example the bone filler and medicines for diabetes. “These will be produced by the ministry beginning July 2013,” he said.
The researches include bone filler, gama-hip, bone graft gama-cha, anti-cholesterol extract and anti-diabete, new entity analgetics, nanotechnology, toxicity test and vaccine carrier and gama-cha stem cell.
Dahlan also said that his ministry is determined to develop cow breeding. The problem is the limited cow offsprings. To address the issue, the SOEs ministry will register female cow in Sumatera to developed as mother cows and for fattening.
According to the minister, the selection of Sumatera cows is because in Sumatera the ministry is developing palm oil plantation. The waste of palm oil trees is used for cow feed. “Up to 100-200 thousands of cows will be fattened there, also artificial insemination that will produce thousands of cows,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Rector of UGM, Prof. Dr. Pratikno, M.Soc.Sc., confirmed that the ministry has collaborated with UGM in realising UGM research findings. “UGM has agreed to develop further some findings in health and medical field, monitored by the SOEs ministry in production,” he explained.
