The UGM student’s swimming team has earned 11 medals in Indonesian University Swimming Competition from 29-30 March at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta.
As many as 98 swimmers were competing from 16 universities, including Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Universitas Negeri Jakarta, Universitas Negeri Semarang, Universitas Brawijaya, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Universitas Padjajaran, Universitas Hasanuddin, STPN, Institut Pertanian Bogor, and STO Lampung.
Chairman of Student Swimming Unit of UGM, Davin Angwyn, said the 11 medals were two golds, four silvers, and five bronzes. Two gold medals were won by Rosa Palmastuti in the 50-metre category and 200-metre breaststroke. Three silver medals were won by F.G. Rosa Mystica in the category of 50 m and 100 m backstroke and 200 m medley. The other silver was won by Rosa Palmastuti in the category of 100 m backstroke.
Three of the bronze medals were won by Joshua Sutanto in the category of 50 m, 100 m and 200 m breaststroke, and F.G Rosa Mystica in the category of 200 m backstroke while Rosa Palmastuti 200 m medley.
Davin said the UGM team consisted of 11 male and four female athletes. UGM only participated in 17 of all 28 categories. “We cannot take part in all categories, for example in the butterfly, relay and other categories as we’re short of swimmers,” Davin said on campus on Wednesday (10/4).
Davin expressed happiness following the achievements. Despite shortcomings in terms of athletes and facilities, UGM swimming team can still make outstanding achievements.
