Association of Agronomy and Silviculture Students (IMAGRO) of Faculty of Agriculture UGM has campaignd for local farming and food through an exhibition called Gadjah Mada Agroexpo 2013, held on 28/4 in Lembah UGM.
The event with the theme Agroexploration showcased a variety of Indonesian agricultural products. The event to commemmorate the 31th anniversary of the Association was celebrated through fun walk with Regent of Sleman, discussion, competitions, food free distribution, etc.
“The event is organised to increase awareness of Indonesian agriculture,” said committee chairman, Fahmi Ekaputra.
Fahmi said agriculture is a very important sector in Indonesia. It has the potential to be developed into food diversification. “Food and agriculture explorations can support food diversification in the country,” he said.
The exhibition displayed various tropical fruits of Indonesia, such as papaya, pineapple, watermelon, guava, melon, soursop, sapodilla, and banana. “By developing these local fruits, Indonesia can minimise imports. Development can be done by empowering farmers,” he said.
