Corn is a crop grown in Indonesia but the fulfillment of superior corn seed is still dominated by multi-national corporations. Therefore, researchers from Faculty of Biology of UGM, Dr. Budi Setiadi Daryono, M.Agr.Sc. and team in cooperation with PT. Agri Makmur Pertiwi (AMP) and Balitsereal Maros and the Agricultural Research, Training and Development Station (KP4) of UGM in making corn hybrid varieties with beta carotene and high productivity (Gama Sweet Corn).
According to Budi Daryono, adaptation test of Gama Corn Hybrid will be done in summer in the station and Balitsereal Maros. The seed of Talenta is from PT. AMP. The tree is strong, each stalk has 2-4 sections of equal size with wide leaves. Corn seed of Provit A2 is from Balitsereal Maros, it has superior content of beta 0,114 ppm and high potential 8,8 t/ha (provit A2).
“UGM is partnering with PT. AMP in producing the corn hybrid,” said Budi on Thursday (16/5).
Dr. Budi Setiadi Daryono, M.Agr.Sc. and team previously did an adaptation test and on 14 May 2013 harvested Talenta corn at age of ± 65 days. The harvest yields 7,8 tonnes/Ha.
