YOGYAKARTA – The Bimasakti team that will take part in the student formula race car in Japan gets the support from Rector of UGM, Prof. Dr. Pratikno, M.Soc., Sc. In a ceremony to release to the team to Japan on Saturday (17/8), Pratikno hoped that the team would be able to make outstanding achievements.
In addition, an international competition would add experiences to the students in the automotive industry technology in the world. “This is the door to the domestic automotive development,” he said.
Similar supports were given by Dean of Faculty of Engineering UGM, Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., D.Eng., who said that he expected the achievement made this year would be higher than two years before. Panut appreciated the university and sponsors for their support to the team in the competition.
Chairman of Bimasakti team, Fikri Haykal Syarif, the team would carry the design of European formula car and upgrade the machine components. This year the team targets at acceleration and endurance. The team had designed the car using less heavy material, thus reducing the weight by 50 kg. “The result was that the weight of the car is lighter, machines have more power and it saves fuel,” he said.
Haykal expressed his optimism that the Bimasakti team would be able to bring one of the awards home. “We’re optimistic we could earn an award,” he said.
As many as 20 students of Mechanical Engineering and Industry and two supervising lecturers assembled the car. They would compete with 78 participants from various countries in Student Formula SAE in Japan from 3-7 September.
