“We the academics society of Yogyakarta are requesting the Indonesian people to secure the presidential election in honest, fair, and peaceful manner. We monitor the process, we respect the results, we guard the performance. May God bless us.”
At the Balairung hall of UGM on Monday (7/8), the declaration was pronounced by rectors and academics of Yogyakarta higher learning institutions, including from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, STTNas, Universitas Janabadra, Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran, STMIK Amikom, Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta, Sekolah Tinggi Pembangunan Masyarakat Desa, Universitas Sanata Dharma, Poltekes Kemenkes, Universitas Islam Indonesia, and Universitas Proklamasi 45, as well as Head of Yogyakarta Private Universities Association.
Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Prof. Dr. Pratikno, M.Soc., Sc., who read out the declaration said the academics expected the presidential election would run in honest and fair manner.
Rector of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, Prof. Dr. Rochmat Wahab, M.Pd., M.A, said the declaration is a form of moral calls from academic community for participation and contribution in securing the election. Head of Yogyakarta Private Universities Association, Dr. Bambang Supriyadi, said there are 107 private universities across Yogyakarta with around 150 thousands of students and 6500 lecturers some of whom becoming election committee, monitors, and volunteers.
