To mark the National Dental Health Month 2014, UGM Faculty of Dentistry has given free dental treatment to members of the public from 19-20 September 2014 at Prof. Soedomo UGM Oral and Dental Hospital.
As many as 151 dentists and specialists, 300 co-assistance students, and 45 students are involved in the event.
“We aim to target at 800 people in this event where we also invite students from 14 elementary schools in Yogyakarta,” said Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Erwan Sugiatno, drg., M.S., Sp.Pros(K), opening the event.
Erwan said almost all Indonesian people have serious dental problems. As high as 75 percent of the population have caries while in Yogyakarta up to 32.1 percent of the population have even worse conditions related to oral and dental problems.
Further, Erwan affirmed it is important for health wokers to pay more attention and service to oral and dental health among people.
Similar events also run in other 17 Faculties of Dentistry across the country. Almost 200 residents came on the first day to have their dents checked at UGM.
