YOGYAKARTA – Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Prof. Ir. Dwikorita Karnawati, M.Sc., Ph.D., attended an event to celebrate the Hindu holiday of Nyepi hosted by students of Universitas Gadjah Mada who adhere to Hinduism. The event at the Koesnadi Hardjasoemantri Cultural Centre was held on Saturday (4/4).
In her opening remarks, the Rector confirmed that celebrating the Nyepi holiday does not only mean refraining from talking or being inactive but more importantly contemplating on what has happened in life, then evaluate and improve them.
Furthermore, the Rector related the event to energy saying that it is a systemic effort to preserve the energy due to no activity for the whole day. “Just remember how much energy has been saved because every activity is halted for the whole day,” said Dwikorita.
She appreciated that the event is a religious celebration that also spreads the spirit of diversity as representatives from other faiths also came to share the celebration. “I think this is a real form of tolerance in diversity,” she said.
A talk show and yoga therapy also enliven the celebrations.
