The year 2023 has been a year full of achievements for UGM. In addition to reclaiming the overall champion title at the prestigious National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS) a few weeks ago, UGM has achieved various monumental accomplishments.
One of these is the successful design and launch of a policy recognizing student extracurricular activities.
Although achievements and rankings are not the main goals of UGM in implementing the three duties of higher education (teaching, research, and community service), they are proof of UGM’s commitment to transforming itself for the better.
UGM aims to be a catalyst for innovation, providing quality education and shaping students’ character as future leaders.
“UGM must be a pioneer. UGM must be an initiator but also a resilient university that produces intellectuals who care not only for themselves but also for others and the nation,” said the UGM Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Community Service, and Alumni Dr. Arie Sujito during the Pojok Bulaksumur held at the UGM Central Building on Friday (December 8).
UGM achieved several successes this year, including being the overall champion of the Indonesian Student Debate Competition, 1st place in Indonesia’s Outstanding Student Competition, overall champion of the Indonesian Flying Robot Contest, and overall champion of the Indonesian Electric Car Competition.
Additionally, UGM students contributed seven medals to the 2023 National Student Sports Week (POMNAS).
UGM’s commitment to inclusive education is evident through many financial aid programs, including laptop assistance, free student bicycle lending facilities, and various scholarship schemes.
On the same occasion, the UGM Vice-Rector for Education and Teaching, Professor Wening Udasmoro, spoke about the university’s progress in providing inclusive education.
Consistent with Dr. Sujito’s statement, Professor Udasmoro stated that UGM’s education aims to shape students into competent individuals and develop their character and resilience.
“We hope our students are intellectually, physically, and mentally resilient because those are the components we must have to face life. Indonesia in 2045 will become one of the richest countries, and we don’t want our young generation to miss out on it,” said Professor Udasmoro.
She also emphasized UGM’s commitment to lifelong learning. Various programs, from professional certification to past learning recognition, provide opportunities for UGM’s academics and alumni to develop their skills.
“We will develop more in the coming year so that our alumni and lecturers can continue learning in various ways,” she added.
Appreciation for Media and Public Relations Personnel
The Pojok Bulaksumur, one of UGM’s monthly agendas with the UGM Journalists Forum (Fortakgama), also served as an appreciation event for media personnel and public relations practitioners in all units within UGM.
The Best Photojournalist award was given to Guntur Aga Tirtana, and the Most Active Journalist Covering Press Conferences award was given to Catur Dwi Janati.
Kedaulatan Rakyat appeared as the Print Media with the Most Coverage of UGM, Metro TV as the TV Channel with the Most Coverage of UGM, Kompas.com as the Online Media with the Most Coverage of UGM, and Radio Republik Indonesia as the Radio Station with the Most Coverage of UGM.
Internally, for the first time this year, UGM organized the UGM Public Relations Award with six categories: website management, press releases, Instagram management, TikTok management, YouTube management, and communication campaigns.
