The Dean of the UGM Faculty of Engineering (FT UGM), Professor Selo, officially inaugurated the KATGAMA Bamboo Pavilion in Talunombo Hamlet, Sidomulyo Village, Pengasih District, Kulon Progo Regency, on Monday (Aug. 26).
Agus Priyatno, the FT UGM Alumni Association (KATGAMA) Chair, village officials, and residents witnessed the inauguration.
The 9 x 9-meter pavilion was designed by UGM’s professor of architecture and planning, Professor Eugenius Pradipto, with funding from the KATGAMA.
The KATGAMA Bamboo Pavilion is intended to serve as a community center, hosting cultural and artistic events.
“This pavilion is also expected to enhance the tourism potential in the surrounding area, particularly at Talunombo Reservoir, which offers beautiful views toward Wates City,” said Professor Selo.
The dean explained that the construction of the bamboo pavilion took six months, starting with the groundbreaking on Feb. 18, 2024, and involved residents using locally sourced materials.
Agus Priyatno expressed his appreciation to Professor Pradipto and the people of Talunombo for their collaboration in building the bamboo pavilion.
Priyatno hopes that the KATGAMA Bamboo Pavilion will serve as a community activity center, a place to promote arts and culture, and a tourist attraction that can improve the welfare of the local community.
Priyatno emphasized that KATGAMA and FT UGM are committed to supporting the development of the Talunombo area and helping it grow and prosper.
Talunombo has several potential uses, including establishing a camping area; however, some public facilities, such as accommodations and public toilets, still need to be built to enhance tourists’ comfort.
