A team from the UGM Faculty of Agricultural Technology (FTP UGM) is assisting a farming group in Ngampel Hamlet, Gentungan Village, Mojogedang District, Karanganyar Regency, Central Java.
This event was meant to introduce the implementation of the Plant-Livestock-Fish Integration System (SITTI) and Maggot Cultivation. The team, led by Professor Lilik Sutiarso, also includes Professor Tyas Utami and Dr. Didik Purwadi.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday (Sep. 4), Professor Sutiarso explained that the team supported the Limbah Barokah Maggot Family Group, which consists of women farmers, millennial farmers, and farming groups, to increase the productivity of maggot cultivation.
“We visited the maggot farming site, where the group enthusiastically explained the stages of the maggot cultivation process within one cycle,” he said.
According to Professor Sutiarso, the group appeared to have mastered each stage of the maggot cultivation process after receiving training and intensive guidance from the UGM team, which had previously conducted training in maggot and horticultural crop cultivation.
“The field team had already provided training on maggot farming and horticulture,” he added.
Professor Sutiarso further noted that this community service project will continue for three consecutive years, focusing on increasing the productivity of maggots and horticultural crops in the first year.
The integrated team, comprising experts from Agricultural Engineering and Biosystems, Food and Agricultural Product Technology, and Agricultural Industrial Technology, aims to empower farming communities comprehensively, from institutional training to marketing.
“This technological innovation is expected to address current challenges and significantly contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals,” he concluded.
