A total of 213 Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) students have been deployed to carry out the Community Service Program (KKN-PPM) in Central Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY).
Over 50 days from Apr. 11 to May 30, 2025, these students will implement various work programs across 18 villages and urban communities in six regencies or cities and nine districts.
UGM Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Community Service, and Alumni Dr. Arie Sudjito emphasized that KKN-PPM is a moral, social, and academic responsibility of students as members of the academic community.
He encouraged students to approach the program not as a burden but as an opportunity to serve the community.
“I assure you that KKN-PPM is not a burden but a shared responsibility. Embrace it with enthusiasm and stay humble. Intellectual ability alone is insufficient; knowledge cannot be passed directly to the community. We must use cultural and informal approaches to build effective relationships,” he said in a statement to the press on Tuesday, Apr. 15, 2025.
He also reminded students to treat KKN-PPM as a meaningful and enjoyable learning space while prioritizing safety and collaboration.
He said the program fosters teamwork and the sharing of experiences between students and communities, aiming to benefit both parties through daily interactions and the implementation of tailored work programs.
Dr. Desy Putri Handayani, field supervisor for the Ngaglik unit, shared her tips and hopes for the success of her group’s project.
“We work together to assist the community in making biocompost by meeting with residents and local governments to discuss pressing issues. We hope our plans will be realized and help address community needs,” she said.
Brilliant Alendra Adianfra, a student from the Ngablak unit who is leading an educational initiative for elementary and junior high school students, echoed similar sentiments.
“This program is targeted specifically at elementary and middle school students, as they represent the highest student population in the area,” he explained.
