The UGM Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB UGM) distributed 700 eco-friendly refillable water bottles (tumblers) to new undergraduate students of the 2024 intake. This initiative is part of FEB UGM’s efforts to support sustainable environmental development programs.
The Dean of FEB UGM, Professor Didi Achjari, symbolically distributed the tumblers to three students on Wednesday (Jul. 31) during the FEB UGM student orientation (SIMFONI) at the FEB UGM Plaza.
Didi stated that FEB UGM is distributing tumblers to new students to encourage students, lecturers, and staff to support waste reduction efforts, including avoiding plastic bottles on campus and in daily life.
“FEB UGM carries the mission of sustainability by participating and contributing to preventing plastic waste on campus,” he explained.
Meanwhile, on a separate occasion, the Vice Dean of FEB UGM for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Bayu Sutikno, added that distributing tumblers to students aligns with FEB UGM’s mission to cultivate future leaders in economics and business with a sustainable mindset.
With the tagline “Tumbler is Better,” it is hoped that students, as future leaders, will become more aware of waste reduction efforts and be more responsible for environmental sustainability.
“The distribution of tumblers is also an effort to introduce and internalize the mission of FEB UGM, especially to new students, as a guide and compass for their actions and behavior as new members,” he elaborated.
The distribution of tumblers received positive responses from new students. Nisa Maharani, a new student in the Accounting program, expressed her happiness and pride in receiving a tumbler. She believes that giving out tumblers can encourage students to support FEB UGM’s mission of promoting environmental sustainability.
Muhammad Arvin Prawira, a student in the Economics program, shared similar sentiments. Prawira greatly appreciates FEB UGM’s efforts to reduce plastic waste on campus through the tumbler distribution program.
He said, “The distribution of tumblers is a good step because it can reduce plastic waste and be used in the long term.”
