Do you have a history of anxiety or excessive stress? You might want to try the Modified Relaxation Therapy (MRT), a meditation therapy method aimed at relieving tension and restoring energy.
This service, which is a medical and wellness offering, began development at the UGM Academic Hospital (RSA UGM) in 2024.
The therapy combines relaxation techniques, meditation, and mindfulness, tailored to each participant’s specific condition.
“The therapy is guided by experienced psychiatrists and psychologists from RSA UGM to ensure that the relaxation process is both comfortable and effective,” said RSA UGM psychiatrist Shinta Retno, MD, during the ‘RSA UGM Goes to Campus: Modified Relaxation Therapy’ event aimed at introducing this service to female workers in the UGM community as part of the International Women’s Day celebration, Friday (Mar. 7).
The physician explained that Modified Relaxation Therapy aims to help reduce stress and anxiety, improve mental and emotional health, lower blood pressure, increase focus and concentration, and provide many other benefits.
“In the midst of life moving at an ever-increasing pace, we need a moment of relaxation from our daily routines,” she stated.
In an MRT session, which began with most participants being women, participants practiced breathing exercises to achieve balance before moving to the next session.
Through this meditation session, participants could take a break and relieve mental burdens amid the hustle and bustle of work.
The therapy session continued with relaxation and meditation accompanied by calming music.
One participant, Yanti, from the Directorate of Education and Teaching at UGM, shared that the therapy relaxed her.
“We learned how to manage our thoughts so as not to rush during moments of anxiety, allowing us to think more clearly,” she said.
