The Faculty of Animal Science of Universitas Gadjah Mada (Animal Science UGM) has partnered with PT Toros Farm Indonesia to develop the management of a Chicken Slaughterhouse located within the Animal Science UGM complex on Friday, May 8.
The inauguration ceremony took place at Animal Science UGM and was attended by the Dean, Professor Budi Guntoro, and the General Manager of PT Toros Farm, Bilal Göktekin.
In his remarks, Professor Guntoro stated that the chicken slaughterhouse facility had actually been built in 2003. However, its use had so far been limited to research, studies, and student practicum activities.
According to Professor Guntoro, through collaboration with Toros Farm, the facilities owned by Animal Science UGM are expected to be utilized more optimally to provide broader benefits for both academia and the livestock industry.
“Students will later be able to learn directly from industry practices, including slaughter standards and halal product assurance. We see that Toros Farm pays very detailed attention to the halal aspect,” he said.
Professor Guntoro added that this partnership is an important step toward strengthening students’ competencies and better preparing them for the evolving demands of the modern livestock industry.

Meanwhile, Bilal Göktekin emphasized that productivity and sustainability in halal food have become significant global issues. Therefore, collaboration between universities and industry is considered highly strategic in advancing a more competitive and progressive livestock sector.
According to Göktekin, UGM has long been recognized for its excellence in academic and research human resources. At the same time, Toros Farm brings extensive field experience, including in the international livestock industry.
“This collaboration is expected to provide many benefits, ranging from learning modern technology, student internship programs, and industry visits to strengthening competencies in livestock and halal food sectors,” he said.
After signing the cooperation agreement on behalf of the UGM Vice Rector for Research, Business Development, and Cooperation, the Dean, representatives of PT Toros Farm, and UGM researchers visited the chicken slaughterhouse facility at Animal Science UGM.
