Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) continues to expand its international partnerships to build a global network and reputation. Most recently, UGM welcomed a visit from representatives of IMT Atlantique, France.
The delegation was received by UGM’s Vice-Rector for Research, Business Development, and Cooperation, Dr. Danang Sri Hadmoko; Dean of the UGM Faculty of Engineering (FT UGM), Professor Selo; and Vice-Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Alumni of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB UGM), Dr. Gumilang Aryo Sadewo.
Dr. Hadmoko stated that UGM has long-standing partnerships with several universities in France, including student exchange programs, summer courses, and double degree programs. Therefore, UGM welcomed the opportunity to collaborate with IMT Atlantique, particularly in the fields of engineering and energy.
One sector under consideration is nuclear energy development, as Indonesia is preparing to establish its first nuclear power plant (PLTN) by 2029.
“I think this collaboration is timely, especially as the government is reconsidering nuclear energy,” said Dr. Hadmoko on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at the UGM Central Office.
Christophe Lerouge, President of IMT Atlantique, expressed strong support for research collaboration in nuclear engineering in Indonesia.
According to him, IMT Atlantique has existing connections with one of the leading energy companies in the UK and France, Electricité de France (EDF) Energy.
The collaboration is expected to provide internship opportunities for students from both institutions.
This would be a valuable chance for students to gain real-world experience in the energy sector.
“If we can collaborate, for example with EDF Energy, students could do internships there,” he explained.
Beyond nuclear energy, UGM plans to collaborate with IMT Atlantique in economics and business.
Representing FEB UGM, Dr. Sadewo introduced several multidisciplinary programs, including the Master of Sustainable Development Management, developed in collaboration with Mendel University in the Czech Republic.
In addition to development studies, FEB UGM also partners with various business sectors, such as property management.
He opened the door for collaboration with IMT Atlantique in logistics and supply chain management.
The IMT Atlantique delegation positively received the opportunity.
“We can collaborate with the business school here. We may focus more on supply chains, but there are several areas we can work on together,” they concluded.
