Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and Universitas Halu Oleo (UHO) have collaborated on a Community Service Program (KKN-PPM) in Moolo Village, Muna Regency, Southeast Sulawesi. This joint initiative extends beyond strengthening basic education and health services; it drives economic growth through community empowerment. The partnership’s dedication to positive change in Muna is especially evident in their support for flood-relief efforts in the village.
Their community service efforts received recognition from the Regent of Muna, Bachrun Labuta, who praised the collaboration and expressed hopes for its long-term impact.
“The Muna government warmly welcomes the presence of KKN-PPM students from UGM and UHO in Muna,” said the regent during the delivery of social aid to disaster-affected residents on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2025.
In a statement to the press on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025, the regent emphasized the importance of this inter-university collaboration in improving community welfare.
Similar sentiments were expressed by Arinta Andi Sumangerukka, Chair of the Community Health Post (Posyandu) Supervisory Team for Southeast Sulawesi Province.
She appreciated the KKN-PPM students’ dedication on the ground.
“Posyandu activities aren’t just about health services; they embody community cooperation and concern for future generations. I’m proud that these students are bringing knowledge and innovations to benefit the community,” she remarked during a visit to an exhibition showcasing products developed by KKN-PPM students from UGM.
Professor Nanung Agus Fitriyanto, Head of the UGM Sub-Directorate of Community Service, emphasized the importance of synergy between the two universities in designing programs that align with community needs.
“We hope the programs implemented will not only be beneficial during the students’ time on site but will also leave a sustainable impact on the community,” he said emphatically.
The regent’s visit concluded with the handover of aid by the Chair of the Provincial Posyandu Supervisory Team to both the Posyandu and flood-affected families in Moolo Village.
At the same time, UGM’s Disaster Response Unit (DERU) contributed to repairing school infrastructure damaged by the floods, demonstrating the university’s commitment to disaster recovery and community support.
