Welcoming the month of Ramadan 1447 H, the UGM Campus Mosque will organize various religious activities and lectures to support worship during the fasting month through the Ramadan on Campus (RDK) program. The program features prominent national intellectual figures as speakers.
From UGM Rector, Professor Ova Emilia, and former Vice President, Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, to Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Professor Pratikno, distinguished figures will deliver lectures during Ramadan on Campus at UGM. In addition to national figures, UGM lecturers and experts will also serve as speakers in the program.
Deputy Takmir of the UGM Campus Mosque and Advisor to Jamaah Shalahuddin, Dr. Muhammad Agung Bramantya, stated that RDK is an annual Ramadan agenda that initiates Islamic activities around the UGM campus.
“This is a long-standing tradition that is always eagerly anticipated by students and members of the academic community, both within and beyond UGM,” he said on Thursday (Feb. 12).
He explained that RDK has five objectives derived from its overarching theme, “Weaving Social Harmony as a Pillar of Indonesian Human Development.”
The first objective is to foster an inclusive and equitable environment. The second is to strengthen social harmony within Indonesian society. The third is to cultivate a sustainable collective mindset. The fourth is to reinforce the values of cooperation and tolerance. The fifth is to encourage community participation and cross-sector collaboration.
“These objectives are then translated into the themes presented by the speakers,” Dr. Bramantya explained.
The RDK program series also provides a diverse menu for suhoor and iftar each day. These meals are not exclusively for UGM students; members of the public are also welcome to receive iftar and suhoor meals.
“For iftar, we provide at least 1,500 portions daily. For suhoor, we prepare 500 portions per day, distributed on odd-numbered nights during Ramadan,” Dr. Bramantya stated.
For your information, the RDK series runs throughout the entire month of Ramadan, offering activities from suhoor until tarawih prayers. The program begins with free suhoor and a dawn sermon, followed by Safari in Ramadan activities before iftar, and continues with the Ramadan Public Lecture after tarawih prayers.
Additional events include the RDK Festival, RDK Competition, and a Book Festival. Compared to previous years, this year’s RDK places greater emphasis on human development.
“This year, we aim to take a further step toward advancing human development and fostering social harmony,” Dr. Bramantya explained.
In addition to the UGM Campus Mosque, the Mardliyah Islamic Center is also organizing a series of Ramadan activities on campus under the program titled Ramadan Berkah Mardliyah (RBM) 1447 AH.
The Mardliyah Islamic Center Campus Mosque began its series even before Ramadan through the MIC Berbagi initiative. During Ramadan, RBM holds lectures throughout the day, from suhoor and dhuhr to iftar and tarawih.
The RBM series features lectures delivered by international speakers. It is also enhanced by competitions conducted both online and offline, which provide education while spreading joy.
