The UGM Faculty of Agriculture (Faperta UGM) inaugurated a vocational program in the form of a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) study. This vocational program results from the collaboration between the Faperta UGM and Markplus Corp (MCorp), a pioneering marketing company in Indonesia.
The DBA program specializing in Agribusiness Entrepreneurial Marketing (AEM) is the first DBA program in Indonesia. It was inaugurated on Wednesday (May 1) during MCorp’s 34th anniversary celebration at the AGLC Building, Faculty of Agriculture. The 34th anniversary celebration of MCorp carries the theme “Unstoppable.”
Hermawan Kertajaya, the founder and chair of MCorp, said that the inauguration of the DBA program at the Faculty of Agriculture is a tangible manifestation of that theme.
“We planned this first DBA program in Indonesia to encourage Indonesia to progress with professionals within it. This manifests how Indonesia is an unstoppable country, in line with this year’s theme,” said Kertajaya.
The Dean of the Faperta UGM, Dr. Jaka Widada, emphasized that the DBA AEM program will produce professional human resources in agribusiness by studying risk management and markets. He stated that this is one answer to Indonesia’s challenge of increasing food production by 70 percent by 2050 to prevent hunger.
“Agriculture in Indonesia is a promising business sector, but it also comes with great risks. Therefore, the DBA AEM program is an effort to address these challenges,” explained the dean.
The inauguration also officially marks Faperta UGM as a branch office of MCorp in Yogyakarta, launched by Hermawan Kertajaya and the Vice-Rector for Planning, Assets, and Information Systems at UGM, Dr. Arief Setiawan Budi Nugroho.
Vice-Rector Nugroho hopes that the collaboration between Faperta UGM and MCorp will produce human resources in agribusiness capable of addressing future challenges with creativity and innovative thinking.
Not stopping at MCorp alone, Faperta UGM expands its network with the Asia Marketing Federation (AMF) and the Asia Committee for Small Business (ACSB) to strengthen the DBA AEM program.
This collaboration is marked by a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the Dean of Faperta UGM, the Chief Operating Officer & Executive Editor of Bangladesh Brand Forum as the representative of the AMF President, and the ACSB President.
These various forms of collaboration demonstrate Faperta UGM’s strong efforts to achieve the SDGs, especially SDGs No. 1, No Poverty, No. 2, Zero Hunger, No. 4, Quality Education, and No. 17, Partnerships for the Goals.
