The UGM Forestry Alumni (KAGAMAHUT) in Lampung planted 100 tree seedlings in Bhineka Tunggal Ika Park at the Lampung Human Resources Development Agency on Sunday, December 10.
The Chair of KAGAMAHUT Lampung, MD Wicaksono, stated that the KAGAMA Central Management initiated the KAGAMA Menanam (KAGAMA Plants) program to celebrate UGM’s 74th anniversary, concurrently with the National Tree Planting Month commemoration every December.
This activity also aligns with UGM’s commitment to achieving SDGs, especially SDG 13, which focuses on adapting and mitigating climate change through tree planting, and SDG 15, which emphasizes sustainable forest management to preserve biodiversity.
“The central management invites forestry alumni to participate in the tree planting movement, allowing it to be done across Indonesia,” said Wicaksono.
He explained that planting tree seedlings in the agency’s park ensures the proper control and maintenance of tree plants. The park in Sebiay Street, South Lampung, has an area of around one hectare and has been planted with about 200 tree seedlings in the last two years.
“The one hundred tree seedlings we planted today include fruit trees such as avocado, durian, and endemic timber trees such as kemang, trembesi, and asam kumbang. We will also enrich it with damar, ketapang, and others,” Wicaksono added.
The agency officer Achmad Chrisna Putra mentioned that Bhineka Tunggal Ika Park was established only two years ago with an area of about 1 hectare and a collection of timber trees, fruit trees, and rare plants typical of Lampung and Indonesia.
“The land at BPSDM is extensive, but the management is still lacking. We proposed a collection park to utilize the land and preserve the environment. Hopefully, it can also be an off-classroom alternative for students,” said Chrisna Putra.
