As the demand for halal certification surges, the halal industry is poised for domestic growth and development. Beyond its economic implications and job creation potential, the halal sector aligns with sustainable development initiatives.
Furthermore, governmental regulations now mandate halal certification for various products, including food, beverages, raw materials, additives, and slaughtering services.
Dr. Lily Arsanti Lestari, Chair of the Halal Inspection Institute (LPH) at UGM, affirmed her team’s readiness to contribute to the growth of the halal industry through its inspection services.
Since Nov. 17, 2023, LPH UGM has been officially authorized by the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH).
“LPH UGM is fully prepared to cater to clients across various industrial scales, from micro and small to medium and large enterprises,” Dr. Lestari shared during her statement to journalists on Wednesday (Feb. 28).
Although recently accredited as a halal inspection institution, Dr. Lestari revealed that LPH UGM’s journey toward becoming a Halal Inspection Institute commenced in 2008 by establishing a halal working group led by UGM researchers.
Subsequently, in 2014, the Halal Research Group was established by a rector’s decree. Over the next five years, the research group evolved into one of the Centers of Excellence in Science and Technology, laying the groundwork for establishing the Halal Center in early 2023.
“Finally, by the end of 2023, we obtained official accreditation as a Halal Inspection Institute in Yogyakarta,” she elaborated.
Drawing from its extensive experience, Dr. Lestari emphasized that LPH UGM is committed to delivering top-notch service to clients and is dedicated to assisting them in meeting increasingly stringent halal requirements.
“We aspire to be a trusted partner for the industry in ensuring adherence to relevant halal standards,” she added.
LPH UGM boasts state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and a team of highly qualified expert auditors, ensuring meticulous scrutiny during every halal inspection process.
The institute is poised to accommodate requests for halal inspections across diverse product categories, encompassing food and beverages, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and animal slaughtering services (RPH and RPA).
