The UGM Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA UGM) has received a grant of 17 laboratory instruments from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) through the Center for Mineral, Coal, and Geothermal Resources (PSDMBP) to support practical and field activities in natural resource exploration.
The equipment, valued at over 1 billion rupiah, was handed over on Friday, Jul. 26, 2024, at FMIPA UGM Auditorium.
This state-owned asset is expected to enhance FMIPA UGM Geophysics Laboratory’s activities.
The grant handover ceremony was attended by Fitri Purnamasari Luvieta, Head of the PSDMBP General Affairs Division; Sumartono, Head of the State Property Management Center; Dr. Wiwit Suryanto, Vice Dean for Research and Community Service at FMIPA UGM; and faculty members and Geophysics program managers from UGM.
In a statement sent to the media on Friday, Jul. 26, 2024, Dr. Suryanto mentioned that the geophysics laboratory equipment is expected to support research activities and enhance students’ educational and learning experiences.
“We hope these tools will be widely utilized, and their data can be used to develop methods and conduct joint research,” he explained.
Dr. Suryanto reaffirmed FMIPA UGM’s commitment to supporting wise resource management through the provided equipment on this occasion.
He emphasized the importance of companies and policymakers overseeing natural resource management to ensure it is done prudently, as careless management can lead to environmental damage.
Sumartono, Head of the State Property Management Center, stated that granting state assets is part of optimizing state assets.
“We hope these tools will be useful and fully utilized in the academic world,” said Sumartono.
The provision of geophysics laboratory equipment meets the campus’s practical needs and opens opportunities for student internships.
“We hope to support education in Indonesia. Currently, 17 instruments have been handed over, but are still 6,000 instruments available for donation. We also accept student internship programs,” said Fitri Purnamasari Luvieta.
