In a groundbreaking alliance, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with the Yogyakarta Government and the Yogyakarta Province Prosecutor’s Office, solidified their commitment by signing a Memorandum of Understanding.
This strategic partnership, focusing on implementing legal services for the Suluh Praja Information System, unfolded on Friday (Dec. 8) at Kepatihan Yogyakarta.
The signing ceremony, graced by the presence of Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X (the Yogyakarta Governer), Yogyakarta Chief Prosecutor Ponco Hartanto, and UGM Vice-Rector for Planning, Assets, and Information Systems, Dr. Arief Setiawan Budi Nugroho, marked a significant step towards providing education and support to village officials across the province.
Expressing his thoughts to the media, Sri Sultan emphasized that fostering legal literacy among village officials in Yogyakarta is a key objective for the government in this collaborative venture.
“The Yogyakarta Government is interested in this collaboration; we have a smart program for digitalization up to the village level. We need to ensure that everything runs smoothly,” he articulated.
Beyond enhancing literacy, the governor aspires to instill accountability at the village government level through digital information delivery. He believes this will mitigate the risks of errors in administrative policies and other legal regulations.
“Legal risks are minimized with massive literacy counseling, thus building accountability that is more beneficial to the community,” he elucidated.
Chief Prosecutor Ponco Hartanto highlighted the tripartite collaboration’s objective of providing legal information and counseling to village officials to shield them from potential legal risks.
“We want to provide legal information and counseling to avoid legal risks, both civil, criminal, and administrative,” he affirmed.
Dr. Arief Setiawan Budi Nugroho underscored UGM’s commitment to community service through legal counseling and assistance. UGM, leveraging the expertise of faculty members and students from the Faculty of Law, stands ready to contribute significantly.
“We are ready to support. The UGM Faculty of Law will mobilize a team of experts and students through a community service program,” he affirmed.
