Something noteworthy occurred during UGM’s postgraduate graduation ceremony on Wednesday (April 24) at Grha Sabha Pramana.
One of the graduates, Aulia Ayub, was recognized as the youngest graduate in the dentistry specialty program and earned the title of orthodontist from the UGM Faculty of Dentistry, graduating at 27 years, six months, and nine days.
In comparison, the average age of graduates in the specialist program in this period is 34 years, six months, and 16 days.
In addition to being the youngest, Aulia Ayub was named the fastest graduate in the same program, completing his studies in 2 years and six months with a perfect GPA of 4.00. The average study period for the specialist program this period is four years and two months.
Ayub did not expect to be recognized as the youngest graduate and to graduate cum laude. He did not aim to graduate quickly but on time within the standard 3-year period.
“It was truly unexpected. For me, the important thing was to graduate on time,” Ayub told reporters on Tuesday (April 30).
Regarding achieving a perfect GPA, Ayub mentioned that he consistently aimed to do everything to the best of his ability throughout his studies.
He expressed gratitude for having mentors and supervisors who consistently guided him to stay focused and strive for excellence in everything he did. For Ayub, consistency, working well with others, and maintaining good behavior bring positive outcomes.
“Any problem that arises can be easily solved together,” he said.
However, according to Ayub, the support from professors and the continuous evaluation of the tasks and jobs given were equally important.
“All the professors were very attentive to us, regularly evaluating the difficulties we faced and dedicating themselves fully,” he said.
Additionally, he felt fortunate to have cooperative patients, which significantly contributed to his ability to complete his studies.
“Good cooperation from all the very cooperative patients supported the smooth and successful treatment process,” he added.
When reporters asked why he chose the Orthodontics program at the UGM Faculty of Dentistry, the eldest of three siblings explained that he wanted to pursue a career as a quality orthodontic dentist according to the standards set by the World Federation of Orthodontics (WFO) and the Indonesian Orthodontic College.
