Following an agreement between Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and the Provincial Government of Yogyakarta, UGM student card can now be used as Trans Jogja ticket. This was agreed after frequent analysis, discussions and meetings as well as presentations by UGM team to the Governor of Yogyakarta. "The method is very simple, just simply activate the student card at the counter available at Radio Swaragama starting October 17, 2011. Students are asked to pay Rp100,000," Prof. Dr. Ing. Ir. Ahmad Munawar, M.Sc. explained at UGM, Tuesday (6/9).
However, due to limited number of personnel, during the trial period, this feature can only be enjoyed by new students of S-1 and D-3. In the future, hopefully this system can be applied to all UGM students. "Because by paying one hundred thousand Rupiah, the student card can be used as the ticket of the Trans Jogja for a month. Only by tapping the student card on the ticket machines at bus stops, the door will open," said Ahmad Munawar, cooperation team chairman of the Student Card UGM.
He added that in the near future, Yogyakarta Provincial Government will add 20 new buses. In addition, a new route is pllaned to be constructed around UGM campus and a bus stop at the eastern rim of UGM. "We all hope that with this kind of ticketing system we could boost Trans Jogja uses and reduce the use of private vehicles. In addition, we hope to be able to support the UGM program to become an educopolis campus, free from vehicle pollution," he said.
