A melody of Sriminulyo gendhing was heard in Student Center Hall UGM. The song opened the 43rd ambal warsa (anniversary) performance of Swagayugama student activity unit of UGM, Saturday night (26/3). In a performance entitled Classical Art Performance Swagayugama presented some Jogja Mataraman classic dances which successfully attracted the attention of the audience.
After Sriminulyo gendhing and Babar Layar Ladrang, four graceful dancers presented Sri Sumekar dance. Swagayugama also presented Golek Ayun-ayun, Beksan Harjuno Sumantri, and Golek Menak Rengganis Widaningsih dances.
The anniversary performance was more lively with the performance of Balinese dance student activity unit that presented Pendet and Baris dances, UKJGS which presented Bondan Payung Dance and Karawitan Parade and tribute songs performed by Student Choir. Further, GMCO presented classical orchestra, Minuet and Canon In The Major.
Uswatun Hasana, Chairperson of Swagayugama, said Swagayugama deliberately invited a number of Student Activity Units of Arts to participate in the anniversary performance. "We hope the celebration of anniversary this time can strengthen the relationship among units of student activities," she explained.
Sanah (her nickname) explained, the anniversary celebration this year was also intended to introduce the classical arts to the students. "Jogjanese style classical art is now less in demand, there are not many people interested in this. This performance is expected to attract the public, especially students of UGM on classical art," she said.
Swagayugama is a unit of student activity UGM in Javanese arts Yogyakarta style that was established on March 6, 1968. This unit has become the gathering place of classical Javanese arts activists especially Yogyakarta Mataraman style, especially in the field of dance and gamelan. Various performances were conducted such as a regular gig at Bangsal Sri Manganti Yogyakarta Palace and other performances.
