The Marketing Director of PT Asuransi Jasa Raharja, Putera Imam Hendrawan, stated that more than 70% of road traffic accidents in Indonesia involve young people who are still in their productive years.
“In Indonesia, about 70% of traffic accident causes and victims are young people,” said Hendrawan during the symbolic handover of road safety equipment to Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at the UGM Innovation and Creativity Hub (GIK UGM).
To reduce the number of traffic accidents among youth, the company is actively campaigning to raise public awareness about road safety and promote compliance with vehicle ownership regulations. It also collaborates with universities to research relevant policies and collect academic input.
“This partnership with UGM can mutually benefit both parties,” he added.
Jasa Raharja symbolically handed over safety equipment such as helmets, vests, and traffic lights to raise awareness of traffic safety in the university environment. These items were distributed to representatives of UGM’s Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security Unit (K5L), GIK UGM security, and five UGM student activity units (UKM), namely AIESEC, GMRC Community, Pencak Silat, the Student Activity Unit Forum, and the E-Sports Community.
UGM Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Community Service, and Alumni, Dr. Arie Sujito, stated that the collaboration reflects UGM’s commitment to building partnerships that serve not only government and industry interests, but also support innovation and educational transformation.
Through this partnership, he hopes that health, safety, and security issues will again gain public attention amid the current social and political dynamics.
“We continuously encourage students to promote safety. This is part of character building. A culture of self-protection is not solely the state’s responsibility. Beyond that, there must be ability, willingness, and personal initiative. These habits can be cultivated through continuous practice,” concluded Dr. Sujito.
