Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and PT PLN Persero have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) within the UGM campus.
The agreement was signed on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, in Jakarta by Dr. Danang Sri Hadmoko, UGM Vice-Rector for Research, Business Development, and Cooperation, and Edi Srimulyanti, PLN Director of Retail and Commerce.
This strategic partnership marks a significant step in accelerating the adoption of battery-based electric vehicles in Indonesia while reinforcing the transition to a clean and sustainable energy ecosystem.
According to Vice-Rector Hadmoko, UGM is an academic institution responsible for supporting sustainable development, including in the transportation sector, by promoting environmentally friendly vehicles and reducing carbon emissions.
“The installation of EV charging stations on campus is a tangible expression of UGM’s commitment to comprehensively implementing the green campus concept, not only in terms of research and education but also in day-to-day campus operations,” he stated.
Meanwhile, PLN Director Edi Srimulyanti emphasized that the collaboration also opens opportunities for further research cooperation, electric vehicle technologies development, and public education on new and renewable energy.
“As a strategic partner, PLN fully supports this collaboration as part of the energy transition ecosystem. It is crucial in preparing campuses for the era of transport electrification and creating cleaner, more efficient campus environments,” she said.
As part of its green campus policy, UGM is already pursuing initiatives such as utilizing solar energy, reducing the use of fossil fuel-powered vehicles, and developing a more sustainable internal transportation system.
Through this collaboration, UGM and PLN reaffirm their active roles in accelerating Indonesia’s green energy and transport transformation while positioning the university campus as a living laboratory for sustainable development practices.
