The Student Executive Board of the UGM Faculty of Forestry organized a community clean-up and tree-planting initiative in Jembulan Hamlet, Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta.
The activities, which took place on Sunday (Jun. 1), brought together local residents and youth from the youth community to actively participate in environmental preservation efforts.
Muhammad Rizky Wanadica Putra, Chair of the Faculty of Forestry’s Student Executive Board, explained that the clean-up and tree-planting program was part of the board’s “Fostered Village” initiative aimed at promoting environmental awareness.
The event was held in collaboration with student organizations and several representatives of the UGM Faculty of Forestry Student Family, alongside residents of Jembulan Hamlet.
“By involving the local community, we hope this initiative will contribute to creating a cleaner and more livable environment for the people here,” said Putra on Thursday (Jun. 5) at the UGM campus.
During the clean-up activity, students and residents worked together to collect waste and sort it into organic and inorganic categories. This waste separation process is intended to support better waste management practices at the local Integrated Waste Processing Facility.
“The clean-up focused on residential areas in Jembulan, particularly around the volleyball court, which serves as a gathering point for community events,” Putra added.
Following the clean-up, the team proceeded with planting tree seedlings around residential homes and distributing them free of charge to local residents.
“We distributed 285 seedlings, including timber trees like trembesi and fruit-bearing plants such as jackfruit, sapodilla, soursop, chili, and eggplant,” he explained.
In addition to the clean-up and tree-planting activities, the event also featured light entertainment and a door prize giveaway. These elements were designed to foster a closer connection between students and the residents of Jembulan Hamlet, Sleman Regency.
