Three students from the Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Gadjah Mada (Animal Science UGM), won the Best Formulation award and were First Runner-Up in the Animal Feed Formulation Competition, organized by the Animal Products Technology Student Association of Universitas Hasanuddin, on Aug. 30, 2025. The three students were Prima Cendekia Nirmala Afiatri as team leader, along with members Bangkit Setiyoko and Zahra Ayu Pramesthi.
The competition was joined by students from various universities across Indonesia. It began with a selection stage that required all participants to submit a feed ration proposal for ruminants.
Prima Afiatri explained that each proposal was required to meet specific standards and demonstrate a strong understanding of animal nutrition. All submissions were reviewed by a panel of judges consisting of experts and practitioners in animal science.
“The curation process was conducted with great care and objectivity, and after a rigorous evaluation, five finalists were selected to advance to the next stage,” Afiatri said at Animal Science UGM on Wednesday (Sep. 3).
The finalists were then invited to Universitas Hasanuddin for the final round. This stage was particularly challenging as the teams were required to present their formulations for poultry feed.
“In this session, each team was expected to demonstrate both innovative capacity and technical skills in designing feed that not only met nutritional requirements but also considered economic and sustainability aspects,” Afiatri explained.
According to Afiatri, the UGM team succeeded in showcasing creativity in developing their feed formulation. The team managed to design a ration that was both efficient and environmentally friendly, utilizing locally available ingredients.
“We are truly grateful for this achievement. It is the result of our team’s hard work, support from our lecturers, and contributions from colleagues at Animal Science UGM. We hope this accomplishment will inspire other students to continue learning and innovating,” she said.
She further noted that the UGM team’s success in winning this award reflects their strong understanding of animal science and their ability to innovate in practice. This achievement not only brings pride to the students and faculty but also has a positive impact on the livestock sector in Indonesia.
“With more students excelling in this field, we hope that innovations will continue to emerge, enhancing productivity and sustainability in animal husbandry,” she added.
