Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) continues to be a top public university pick for Indonesian students. This year, over 89,000 prospective students applied to UGM programs, placing it as the 3rd highest in national applications.
UGM offers three main admission routes: the academic excellence-based entrance selection (SNBP), the national entrance test (SNBT), and Independent Selection, with a total capacity of 9,236 new students.
Additionally, the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) has a capacity for 1,039 students. For the 2025 SNBP route, UGM saw an increase in applicants compared to 2024.
“In 2024, UGM received 31,289 SNBP applicants, which rose to 32,429 participants this year,” stated Professor Wening Udasmoro, UGM Vice-Rector for Education and Teaching, on Wednesday (May 28) at the UGM Campus.
A total of 2,783 students, or 30% of the total capacity, have been admitted through this route.
With the same percentage of capacity, plus reallocation from SNBP, UGM will admit 2,812 prospective students through the SNBT route. For the Independent Selection route, UGM offers the largest capacity, accounting for 40% of the total intake.
“UGM is accepting 2,812 students via this SNBT route,” Professor Udasmoro added.
UGM ranks 3rd nationally for the highest number of SNBT applicants this year.
Looking at the distribution of interest among prospective students applying to UGM programs, the Faculty of Law (FH UGM) leads with 3,654 applicants.
This is followed by the Faculty of Psychology (Psychology UGM) with 3,601 applicants, and the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK UGM) with 3,155 applicants.
This indicates a shift in interest compared to the previous year, when the Psychology UGM held the top spot as the most popular program in SNBT 2024.
“Last year, the most sought-after program was Psychology,” she revealed.
According to Professor Udasmoro, UGM has maintained its position as the university with the highest number of applicants over the past three years.
From 2022 to 2025, the number of UGM applicants for the SNBT selection ranged from 20,000 to 89,000 participants. This figure illustrates a consistent increase in interest in the university over the past four years.
To promote inclusive education, Professor Udasmoro highlighted that UGM also offers the Independent Selection route.
For prospective students who were not successful in the SNBT route, UGM still provides this option for registration. The total quota for this admission route is 40%.
Professor Udasmoro urged prospective students to access comprehensive information about Independent Selection admissions on the official website: um.ugm.ac.id.
She also advised the public to remain vigilant and avoid falling for scams promising guaranteed admission to UGM in exchange for a fee.
“I urge the public to always be cautious of such schemes,” she warned.
