More than 600 runners participated in the Vet Fun Run & Pet Show 2025, held to celebrate the 79th Anniversary of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKH UGM), on Saturday (Sep. 19).
The Vet Fun Run offered three race categories, designed to accommodate a diverse range of participants.
The 2K route was specially designed for those who wished to run with their pets, the 3K route was created for families to enjoy quality time together, while the 5K route challenged runners to test their endurance and stamina.
Dean of FKH UGM, Professor Teguh Budipitojo, explained that the main goal of the event was to combine the joy of running with the companionship of pets.
“This anniversary celebration provides a platform for participants to enjoy and celebrate together,” said Professor Budipitojo.
He added that this was the first time a pet-inclusive running event had been organized at FKH UGM.
He expressed hope that the Vet Fun Run & Pet Show would become an annual tradition, offering a space for the pet owner community to gather each year.
“We will hold this event regularly every year,” he emphasized.
Participants also expressed their enthusiasm, including April, who joined the event with her two beloved pets.
“I felt at ease because not only are my pets already used to running with me, but there were also free health check-up and consultation services for animals,” she said.
A joyful experience was also shared by 10-year-old Kyona, who joined the run with her family. She was delighted to meet many animals at the event.
“I was so happy to see lots of cute pets, from small to large ones. Unfortunately, I couldn’t bring Molly (Kyona’s cat) because she prefers sleeping and is scared of people,” she said with a smile.
After the run, the event continued with a group exercise session and door prize distribution.
The excitement peaked with the pet show, which featured three categories: a pet fashion show, a dog sprint, and a dog agility competition.
