Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) achieved an outstanding accomplishment by winning the Overall Champion title at the 2025 National Mathematics and Natural Sciences Olympiad (ONMIPA). In this year’s ONMIPA competition, UGM secured six gold medals, one silver medal, six bronze medals, and one honorable mention across four fields: physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics.
In this competition, UGM also sent the largest contingent, with 19 students participating. The UGM contingent consisted of five students competing in physics, five in biology, five in mathematics, and four in chemistry.
UGM Director for Student Affairs, Dr. Hempri Suyatna, expressed his appreciation for the UGM contingent’s success in winning the 2025 ONMIPA Overall Champion title at Universitas Padjadjaran.
He noted that throughout the competition, held from Nov. 16 to 20, 2025, the UGM contingent demonstrated exceptional performance from the preliminary rounds through the final stage.

“The ONMIPA overall champion title is an extraordinary achievement and a new record for UGM after many years as runner-up. We are grateful to have become the overall champion, especially since this year’s ONMIPA was followed by 251 students from 96 universities who passed the regional selection and then competed at the national level,” he said at the UGM Campus on Friday (No. 21).
According to Dr. Suyatna, several key factors contributed to UGM’s victory. It began with thorough preparation, including a strong achievement development ecosystem, a rigorous selection process for outstanding students, the crucial role of supervising lecturers, the support of the ONMIPA community, and facilities provided by the Directorate of Student Affairs.
He emphasized that this achievement reflects the passion and perseverance of all participants who remained committed despite their academic workload.
“ONMIPA has become an increasingly prestigious competition, making it a challenge for UGM to continue improving and maximizing its potential in order to maintain the champion title,” he explained.

With the 2025 ONMIPA Overall Champion title, Dr. Suyatna stated that UGM further strengthens its position as Indonesia’s leading institution in the field of science. He hopes this achievement will inspire the entire UGM academic community to continue innovating and enhancing the university’s competitive culture.
“This accomplishment reaffirms our commitment to sustaining and improving our achievements in prestigious competitions in the years to come,” he added.
