UGM Gelar Kongres Pancasila ke-8

As a first step to commemorate the birth of state ideology, Pancasila, on June 1st, UGM will host the Congress of Pancasila. The event that was initiated by the Center for Pancasila Studies UGM will be held from 30-31 May and June 1. This year is the 10th year the event is held. The theme of the event is Re-Actualization of Trisakti to Achieve Prosperity Based on Nation’s Cultural values of Pancasila.

In a press conference that took place at the Center for Pancasila Studies UGM, the initiator of the event, Prof. Dr. dr. Sutaryo, Sp.A (K)., conveyed the urgency of the themes. Pancasila is the legacy of the founding fathers. There are three things outlined in the legacy of Trisakti Pancasila. These three things are to be sovereign in the fields of politics, economics must be self-sufficient, and in the cultural field we should have our own personality. Through Trisakti, we hope Indonesian people are able to prosper.

"Lately we feel that the politics is not fully independent, the economy is also no longer self-sufficient, in the field of culture we also experienced remarkable acculturation that is not in accordance with the national identity," explained by Prof. Sutaryo.
The Congress will begin with a course on the first day. The course was organized to develop the meaning of Pancasila ideology.

"The course is ideology level. UGM inherited the tradition of Ir. Sukarno, who also held a similar thing for officials at the time," said Heri.

According to the plan, matters which will be discussed also related to strengthening the role of universities in addressing the crisis of sovereign, bringing together representatives from several universities in Indonesia. Sovereignty defense talks will be delivered by the Military Academy, food sovereignty by IPB, health sovereignty by UNAIR, sovereignty of science and technology by UGM, education sovereignty by the University of Indonesia, energy sovereignty by ITB, tourism sovereignty by the University of Udayana, sovereignty of the border region by Mulawarman University, and maritime and island sovereignty by Pattimura University.

In addition, in the second and third day of the congress, events will be attended by several national figures such as Dr. (HC) Ir. Siswono Yudo Husodo, KGPAA Paku Alam X, Prof. Dr. Sri Adiningsih, Dr. Haedar Nasir, KH. Hasyim Muzadi, and Prof. Dr. Suwardjono who will deliver panels on sovereignty.
