Mahasiswa UGM Meraih Beasiswa Cargill Global Scholars 2016

Elory Leonard, student of Faculty of Biology of Universitas Gadjah Mada has earned Cargill Global Scholars (CGS) 2016. The Cargill Global Scholars is a scholarship programme from Cargill, U.S. largest company in agriculture, industry, raw materials and animal husbandry. Only 10 best Indonesian students who are selected academically and non-academically can receive the scholarship. Other recipients this time are from Engineering Faculty UGM, IPB, Universitas Brawijaya, ITS, Universitas Lampung, and Universitas Hasanuddin.

Elory said annually, hundreds of students in Indonesia applied for the CGS. This year, over 700 students have registered. Elory will receive financial support from CGS for two years worth USD2,500, also mentoring from PT. Cargill, and joining In-Country Seminar in Jakarta from 6-9 September 2016.

“The CGS focuses on the development of leadership among young people,” she said on Monday (3/10).
In the second year, recipients will join leadership training globally along with others from Brazil, China, India, USA and Rusia, to be conducted in Minneapolis, U.S.A.

Separately, Vice-Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of Faculty of Biology UGM, Dr. Budi Setiadi Daryono, M.Agr.Sc., hoped through the CGS programme, scholarship recipients would be able to establish global networking.

“Hopefully, the CGS would be able to increase student’s critical thinking and equip them with skills to be future leaders of Indonesia,” Budi concluded.
