UGM Karate Team Got More Medals in Regional Student Sports Week 2011

More medals came for UGM from the Regional Student Sports Week 2011. This time the medal was presented by UGM karate team who won 2 golds and 4 bronzes in a game that was held from March 26 to 27 at Sunan Kali Jaga Islamic State University.

 

The medal placed UGM Karate Team in the second position. Meanwhile, the first position was won by UNY and while UAJY in the third. UNY gained 7 gold medals, six silvers and three bronzes. UAJY collected a gold and 1 silver.


Muhammad Shidiqi, general chairman of UGM (INKAI) Karate Team mentioned that two gold medals achieved by UGM were presented by Ferdian Jamal (Senior Male Kata) and Komang Ayu Ratnaningsih (Senior female kumite-55 kg). Furthermore, four bronze medals were won by Jabal Akbar Noor who got two bronzes in two categories (senior male kata and senior male kumite -67 kg), Andrea King (senior male kumite -75 kg), and Ferdian Jamal (senior male kumite -60 kg .)


The sport week of karate this time was followed by as many as 106 karate athletes from 16 universities throughout Yogyakarta. This competition aimed to select potential karate athlete students in Yogyakarta. The excellent athletes are prepared to represent Yogyakarta in the National Student Sport Week (Pomnas) which will be held in Riau Island from 25 September -1 October.
