YOGYAKARTA – Universitas Gadjah Mada holds Open Campus and Innovation Expo which is a series of UGM Research Week 2011. The activity in the framework of the 62nd UGM Anniversary will take place from October 11 to 15 at Grha Sabha Pramana. It is planned that the event will be opened directly by UGM Rector, Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M. Eng., Ph.D. At the event the Governor of Yogyakarta, Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, will give a speech.
"Research Week this time is made quite special and performed simultaneously with a series of UGM anniversary celebrations," Vice Rector for Alumni Affairs and Business Development, Prof. Ir. Atyanto Dharoko, M. Phil., Ph.D., told reporters in LPPM Main Room, Monday (10/10). On that occasion, the Vice Rector was accompanied by Committee Chairman for Research Week, Dr. Ir. Ambar Pertiwiningrum, and Committee Chairman of the 62nd UGM Anniversary, Prof. Dr. Edy Meiyanto, M.Sc., Apt.
Research Week is held regularly every year as part of UGM accountability of the various achievements in education, research, and community service. "UGM opens the ‘window’ every year so that people can see directly the results of achievements," he said.
Research Week Committee Chairman, Dr. Ir. Ambar Pertiwiningrum, said that the Open Campus and Innovation Expo displays the results of the best researches of students and lecturers at UGM, SMEs, partners, and works of the best vocational students in Indonesia. "It includes the regional superior products and culinary festival," she said.
She added that the Research Week is proof that Yogyakarta is a barometer of sciences in Indonesia. The existence of hundreds of universities in Yogyakarta should generate plenty of research findings that are beneficial to society. Moreover, the Research Week also aims to foster research culture among the students. "We want to foster research culture among students from elementary to high schools. The SMEs’ products exhibition is expected to encourage the growth of creative industries in Yogyakarta," she said.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Edy Meiyanto, M.Sc., Apt., said the planned activities of UGM anniversary in community service is, among others, to do monitoring and arrangement of boarding houses and food stalls around UGM, especially around 2 kilometers from the campus . "We need to ensure that students living environment is healthy and comfortable," he said.
