Ariani Nisma Putri (18), commonly known as Putri Ariani, is one of the 10,678 new students accepted into Universitas Gadjah Mada this year.
The singer, who achieved fourth place on America’s Got Talent (AGT), was admitted to the UGM Faculty of Law (FH UGM) through the Talent Search for Outstanding Students (PBUB) in the arts category.
Wearing a white shirt and black skirt, Putri Ariani was among the six new student representatives who had the opportunity to receive the university blazer from the UGM Rector as a symbol of their acceptance as new UGM students at the opening of PIONIR Gadjah Mada on Monday (Jul. 27) at the Pancasila field.
PIONIR Gadjah Mada is an activity for learning, introducing, exploring potential, and orienting to educate young leaders with a vision aligned with UGM values.
Speaking to the media, Putri Ariani expressed her happiness and pride in becoming a new student at Universitas Gadjah Mada. She said it took about a year to decide on the best education for her future.
“There were many considerations. Over the past year, I’ve thought a lot about continuing my education, and finally, I chose UGM. I think UGM is the right choice for me,” she said.
Regarding her choice to study law at UGM, Putri emphasized her desire to learn something new beyond singing and music.
“I want to learn something new. I hope to advocate for my friends, with disabilities and without disabilities, to achieve their dreams,” she said.
Although she graduated from the Indonesian Music High School, or SMKN 2 Bantul, Putri said that by choosing to study at the Faculty of Law, she aims to gain new insights.
“I studied music in high school, but I like something new. Studying law can broaden my knowledge and make me more open-minded,” she said.
However, Putri revealed that she will not abandon her singing career. She wants her education and career to go hand in hand.
“I want my education and career to go hand in hand, and I will continue my studies. I plan to release an album this year,” Putri explained.
The Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Professor Ova Emilia, stated that Putri Ariani is one of the over ten thousand new UGM students from various regions and backgrounds who encourage and motivate each other’s success.
She hopes Putri can pursue her studies well at UGM.
“I hope her studies go smoothly and she remains focused. We strive to make UGM a comfortable and enjoyable place for everyone to learn,” she said.
As known, Putri Ariani is a blind pop solo singer-songwriter. She gained recognition after participating in Indonesia’s Got Talent 2014 and winning the competition.
As she grew older, Putri attracted international public attention when she received a golden buzzer from Simon Cowell on America’s Got Talent (AGT) 2023, where she secured the fourth position.
