Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Qatar University (QU) on Sunday (May 26) to expand collaboration on academic exchange and joint academic activities between the two universities.
The signing took place at QU, with the signatory from QU, Dr. Omar Mohamed Al-Ansari, the President of QU, and Prof. Ova Emilia, the Rector of UGM, accompanied by the Ambassador of Republic Indonesia for Qatar, HE Ridwan Hassan.
The scope of collaboration under the MOU includes academic exchanges (professors, lecturers, scientists), student exchange, joint seminars, and workshops.
UGM and QU have had a long-lasting partnership; however, this year’s MOU focuses on strengthening and enhancing the academic exchange program for academic development, focusing on Arabic Language and Literature and other areas related to Islamic and Arabic Studies in particular.
This collaboration also becomes the entrance for other opportunities and brings both institutions towards a closer partnership to advance regional innovations.
“We hope the collaboration can further bridge students’ and professors’ exchange between Indonesia and Qatar, strengthening the good relationship between the two universities and between Indonesia and Qatar in general,” said QU President Dr. Omar Mohamed Al-Ansari.
UGM’s Rector, Prof. Ova Emilia, also expresses her anticipation for this collaboration. She hopes that every party involved can work together to realize the goals of the partnership.
“We encourage every faculty and unit at UGM to maximize this collaboration and create diverse academic collaborations that benefit students, lecturers, and researchers from both universities and people from Indonesia and Qatar,” UGM’s Rector, Prof. Ova Emilia, advised.
On her official visit to Qatar, the Rector of UGM is accompanied by the Dean of the Faculty of Geography, the Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Science, the Dean of the Vocational College, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Sangidu from the Faculty of Cultural Science, Director of the Partnership and Global Relations, and Head of the Office of International Affairs.
During the official visit to Qatar, facilitated by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Doha, Qatar, the rector will visit three other Qatar universities and the Qatar Foundation to discuss a possible collaboration with UGM.
