A lecturer from the Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Gadjah Mada (Animal Science UGM), Dr. Muhsin Al Anas, was selected to participate in the International Education Innovation Fund (IEIF) – ASEAN Research Collaboration Project, organized by the Australian Government through the RMIT University Asia Hub. The program was held at the University of Sydney, Australia, from Jun. 5 to Aug. 29, 2025.
During the program, Dr. Al Anas worked on a research project titled “Nutritional Strategies for Starch–Protein Synchronization to Improve Poultry Performance and Sustainability.”
The study aims to optimize synchronization between energy and protein availability in broiler chicken feed to enhance production performance while supporting the sustainability of the poultry industry.
“Through this program, I am grateful to have been involved in various research activities ranging from feed formulation, feeding trials, and biological sample collection to laboratory analysis and scientific reporting,” said Dr. Al Anas on Wednesday (Sep. 10).
In addition to research activities, Dr. Al Anas gained valuable experience through interdisciplinary discussions, academic workshops, and visits to research facilities at the University of Sydney.
These forums also provided him with opportunities to share insights and highlight challenges faced by poultry farming in Indonesia.
“I particularly emphasized issues related to limited feed raw materials, nutrient efficiency, and carbon emission mitigation strategies,” he explained.
Dr. Al Anas further underlined that the program not only broadened his academic perspectives but also opened the door to long-term research collaboration.
Beyond acquiring technical and strategic skills for impactful research design, participation in this program enabled him to build an international network that will support future collaborations.
“As a follow-up, this program can specifically help develop research grounded in real-world problems in Indonesia, particularly in sustainable poultry feed development,” he added.
He also expressed hope that participation in the IEIF program will mark the beginning of strengthened research collaboration between UGM, the University of Sydney, and other international partners.
He further emphasized the importance of building partnerships with industry players focused on developing innovative and sustainable tropical livestock feed and farming systems.
