Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has again demonstrated its excellence in leveraging social media by winning two prestigious accolades at the 2025 Government Social Media Award (GSMS) for having the Most Engaging Social Media and Best Social Media Account at the higher education level.
The awards were presented during the GSMS 2025 event, which was held on Thursday, Apr. 17, 2025, at the auditorium of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia.
Dr. Yahya Agung Kuntadi, representing UGM Jakarta Campus, attended the event to receive the honors.
This achievement reflects UGM’s dedication to fostering effective communication with the public through its social media platforms.
University Secretary Dr. Andi Sandi Antonius Tabusassa Tonralipu expressed his gratitude for UGM’s success in receiving the two awards.
According to him, this recognition is a form of appreciation from external parties for the university’s public information and publication channels.
“These awards further motivate UGM’s public relations, social media, and news teams to deliver even better information to the public through UGM’s official social media accounts,” said Dr. Tonralipu on Monday, Apr. 21, 2025.
He emphasized that UGM remains committed to providing educational content and improving public literacy through positive and enlightening content.
“We want the public to increasingly gain access to positive information related to the university’s tri-dharma activities (education, research, and community service) carried out by the UGM community,” he added.
The GSMS represents the highest form of recognition for government institutions and universities that are deemed successful in creatively and innovatively using social media to positively impact society.
GSMS is a collaborative initiative by the creative and digital agency Awrago, and NoLimit Indonesia, a leading Big Data and AI technology company focused on communication.
UGM’s win in two categories at once further solidifies its position as one of Indonesia’s leading universities, adapting to technological and digital communication advancements.
As is widely known, UGM operates several official social media accounts, including Instagram @ugm.yogyakarta with 1.5 million followers, X (formerly Twitter) @ugmyogyakarta with 1.1 million followers, TikTok @ugm.id with 575 thousand followers, and Facebook @UGMYogyakarta with 498 thousand followers.
