Waste & Wishes Indonesia, a startup nurtured by the UGM Innovative Academy in collaboration with Bhumee Artani and Setara Indonesia under the Magelang Stories consortium, has been selected to receive funding and implementation support from the Catalyst Changemakers Ecosystem (CCE) 3.0 program initiated by the GoTo Impact Foundation, a nonprofit organization established by the GoTo Group.
Melchior Raka Daksattama, CEO of Waste & Wishes and consortium representative, expressed his gratitude and pride in this achievement. He referred to it as a significant step toward realizing the dream of building a regenerative farming ecosystem in Sawangan District, Magelang Regency.
“We are grateful to the GoTo Impact Foundation and all partners who have supported us so far,” he stated on Tuesday (Oct. 8) at the UGM campus.
Daksattama explained that all projects will begin in 2025, focusing on developing sustainable regenerative farming.
As part of this initiative, Waste & Wishes Indonesia will manage the processing of organic waste from agriculture and local communities, establish a composting facility, and create fish ponds and chicken coops, which will also serve as field laboratories for testing feed produced from BSF (Black Soldier Fly) larvae.
Additionally, the program includes planting 2,000 trees and constructing 25 infiltration wells to improve groundwater and enhance the environmental quality around the Sawangan District, particularly in the Pabelan Watershed area.
“We are confident that the collaboration between Waste & Wishes Indonesia, Bhumee Artani, and Setara Indonesia will positively impact the people of Magelang, especially in addressing climate change challenges and food security. We hope to boost the local economy through this project through an inclusive sociopreneur model,” added Daksattama.
The Magelang Stories consortium, which includes Waste & Wishes Indonesia, is expected to serve as a successful example of how sustainable solutions can be implemented locally and have the potential for national expansion across Indonesia.
In addition to the project in Magelang, three other projects have been selected to implement their initiatives in Malang, Central Lombok, and Belitung. These projects are Gandrung Tirta, Lombok Ecocraft, and Berikanesia Lestari.
“Each project will innovate with stakeholders and local communities, aiming to create targeted and sustainable solutions while empowering communities to address social, environmental, and economic challenges independently,” Daksattama added.
Waste & Wishes Indonesia is a startup under Innovative Academy that focuses on environmental issues, particularly integrated waste management, maggot farming, and sustainable agriculture.
With a mission to create innovative solutions for waste management and high-quality agricultural products, Waste & Wishes is committed to supporting environmental sustainability and community empowerment.
