The Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) contingent won the most medals at the 37th National Student Scientific Week (Pimnas), held at Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya.
During the event, which took place from Oct. 15-18, 2024, UGM’s Pimnas team secured 36 medals, far surpassing Universitas Hasanuddin (19 medals) and Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember Surabaya (17 medals).
At the 37th Pimnas closing ceremony, held at the Airlangga Convention Center (ACC), Campus C, on Friday (Oct. 18), the UGM team narrowly missed out on winning the Adhikarta Kertawidya rotating trophy.
Despite winning more medals, UGM trailed Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas) in the gold medal tally for the presentation category, resulting in Unhas’s overall victory. UGM finished second, followed by ITS Surabaya in third place.
UGM Rector Professor Ova Emilia praised and considered the UGM Pimnas team’s achievements extraordinary.
She emphasized that Pimnas is not merely a competition but a valuable platform for students to enhance their confidence in innovation and creativity for the future.
“These students are incredible. I am sure UGM’s competitive spirit has shaped them. It’s not just about competing but also about building friendships,” she explained.
UGM Director of Student Affairs, Dr. Sindung Tjahyadi, expressed his gratitude to the supervising lecturers, mentors, and the UGM PKM/Pimnas Task Force Team, who, despite their busy academic schedules, continued to guide and support the UGM Pimnas team.
“Thank you to the task force team for their tireless efforts in supporting and meeting the needs of the UGM Pimnas team. Despite limited time and resources, they still provided the best service,” he said.
Secretary General of the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Research and Technology, Dr. Suharti, applauded the 525 teams from 118 universities participating in this year’s Pimnas. These teams were the top performers selected from an initial pool of 43,000 teams.
“Only 1.2 percent made it through. I appreciate all participants and mentors for contributing to Pimnas,” she said.
