The 2024 Universitas Gadjah Mada Sports and Arts Week (Porsenigama) has concluded.
During the closing ceremony, held amidst rain in Yogyakarta on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024, the Faculty of Engineering (FT UGM) officially declared the overall champion of Porsenigama 2024, securing 40 gold medals, 36 silver medals, and 27 bronze medals.
Vocational College (SV UGM) followed as the runner-up with 32 gold, 15 silver, and 24 bronze medals, while the Faculty of Agriculture (Agriculture UGM) claimed third place with 14 gold, 14 silver, and 20 bronze.
This year marks the 41st edition of Porsenigama, which carried the theme “Renjana Arutala.”
The 2024 Porsenigama involved 5,201 students from 18 faculties and two schools and was held over 43 days from October to November 2024.
Muhammad Salman Alfarisi, Chair of the Porsenigama 2024 Committee, shared that the event featured competitions in 23 sports and 14 arts categories.
Two new events were introduced this year: rowing in sports and poetry reading in arts.
“A total of 1,106 medals were awarded, including 347 gold, 351 silver, and 408 bronze,” he explained.
Hendrikus Prasetyo Cahyo Santoso, Chair of the UGM Student Activity Unit Communication Forum, highlighted Porsenigama as a platform to identify and prepare UGM athletes and artists for regional, national, and international competitions.
“As part of UGM’s anniversary celebrations, this event has produced numerous athletes and artists who have achieved remarkable accomplishments,” he stated.
Dr. Arie Sujito, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Community Service, and Alumni at UGM, praised Porsenigama as a means for students to develop their talents and potential.
“Porsenigama can inspire students, providing them with skills to contribute to society, whether in their dorms, neighborhoods, or communities. This can help shape their character,” he expressed.
