Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and the Rahmat Indonesia Foundation have agreed to collaborate on building a “Senior Sharing Space” shelter. The agreement was signed on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025, at the UGM Rector’s Guest Room in the UGM Central Office.
UGM Rector Professor Ova Emilia and President of Rahmat Indonesia Foundation Rahmat Shah attended the event and signed the cooperation document.
The shelter is planned to be built in the Wisdom Park area of UGM.
It will serve as a space where elderly residents can engage in positive activities within the UGM campus.
This will enable them to connect and interact, fostering positive relationships in their later years.
The collaboration between UGM and the Rahmat Indonesia Foundation supports UGM’s tri-dharma of higher education.
This partnership follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2023, which aimed to develop community service and social and humanitarian activities.
After the contract signing, the event continued with the groundbreaking ceremony at UGM’s Wisdom Park, led by UGM’s Rector and the President of Rahmat Indonesia Foundation.
Despite the rain over UGM that afternoon, the cooperation between the two parties was not hindered.
During the event, the UGM Rector and guests were invited to view the design of the planned shelter.
Rahmat Shah, President of Rahmat Indonesia Foundation, expressed his hope that the Senior Shelter project will be completed within six months.
“Even if the funding is not fully secured, we will begin the project. Our goal is to complete it within six months. So, we must support each other and pray for the greater good, including UGM,” he stated.
Rector Emilia echoed similar hopes, expressing that the shelter would be a positive contribution from UGM to the community around UGM and Yogyakarta.
“We hope this shelter can do a lot of good and benefit everyone,” she said.
