The Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Professor Ova Emilia, has introduced new leadership appointments within the university by inaugurating Dr. Danang Sri Hadmoko as Vice-Rector for Research, Business Development, and Cooperation.
Dr. Hadmoko previously served as Dean of the UGM Faculty of Geography.
The same ceremony also saw the appointment of Professor Muhammad Kamal as the new Dean of the Faculty of Geography, Erlis Saputra as Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs at the Faculty of Geography, and Sugiyanta as Head of UGM’s Office of Security, Occupational Safety, Emergency Response, and Environment.
Dr. Hadmoko is a renowned academic and researcher in the fields of geomorphology, geographic information systems (GIS), and natural hazards, including landslides and volcanic eruptions. As an active scholar, he has authored over 120 scientific publications, many of which have been widely cited by the international academic community.
In his new role, Dr. Hadmoko is expected to strengthen synergy across academic research, business development, and strategic partnerships, both nationally and internationally.
In her remarks, Professor Emilia congratulated the newly appointed officials and expressed hope that they would fulfill their duties with integrity and dedication, especially as UGM navigates complex environmental and institutional challenges.
“In today’s rapidly changing environment, having an agile and adaptive institution that can remain competitive is no longer simply a matter of excellence—it is an urgent necessity to ensure institutional sustainability,” said Professor Emilia. “Every change we make is intended to support the advancement and achievement of the greater mission we have set together.”
Since June 2023, the position of Vice-Rector for Research, Business Development, and Cooperation has been jointly managed by the Rector and the Vice-Rectors. Professor Emilia extended her gratitude to the Vice-Rectors who had carried out these responsibilities over the past two years.
Today marks a joyful occasion for all of us, as UGM welcomes a new Vice Rector. I extend my sincere congratulations to all newly inaugurated officials,” she added.
Concluding her speech, the Rector reminded university leaders to uphold their responsibilities with discipline, accountability, and a spirit of service. She emphasized that the trust and responsibility placed upon them should serve as a moral compass in advancing UGM’s mission.
“May Allah SWT always guide us in fulfilling our duties with integrity, upholding the noble values of the three pillars of higher education,” she said.
